Today Wednesday 15th March 2023, young women in leadership positions from different political shades/parties, Youth League as well National Youth Council structures from across the country have been brought together by The Netherlands Institute For Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) in an Intergenerational Women’s Dialogue: Embrace Equity.
The dialogue with a theme: Women in Politics and Gender Equity Journey.
The Country Director of NIMD , Mr Frank Russ has challenged the youth leaders to be more focused on influencing their spaces and be felt with in their communities and country Uganda. You have whatever it takes to be better than even the speakers of the day. Stay focused as you challenge the status quo, said Mr Frank Rusa to the young leaders.
The dialogue moderated by Ms Joy Mukisa started off with a panel that composed of Rt Hon Namayanja Rose, Hon Kiiza Winnie, Rt Hon Nyanjura Doreen(Deputy Lord Mayor, Kampala Capital City Authority(KCCA), Hon Nyamutoro Phionah (National Youth Female Member of Parliament), Hon Miria Matembe, Hon Ogwal Cecilia(District Woman Member of Parliament-Telego) shared with the young leaders reflecting on their journey and experiences of Women in Politics and the struggle for Equity.
The panel leaders shared their journey, lessons learned and struggle for Equity in the political arena.
In the afternoon the leaders facilitated round table inter-geration dialogue sharing with the young leaders on the obstacles to realizing Equity in Uganda, Critical Inter-generational conflicts and challenges, what spaces can be created for mentorship and joint advocacy as well areas of collaboration for championing gender equality.
Leaders from Parliamentary Forum On Youth Affairs(UPFYA), National Youth Council(NYC), Youth Advocacy Foundation Uganda-YAFU were equally represented in the dialogue.
