Boda Boda registration in Kampala extended for more two weeks- KCCA

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has extended the Motorcycle and Boda-Boda registration exercise by 16 days after experiencing an overwhelming turn-up on the last day of registration.

According to the statement released by the Authority, the 16 day extension to the on-going Boda-Boda census exercise will end on September 16th 2022.

“Kampala Capital City Authority KCCA hereby announce a 16 day extension (Grace period) to the on-going Boda-Boda census exercise to terminate on September, 16th 2022,” KCCA Said.

The registration exercise, which started on August 15, was supposed to end on Tuesday, 30th August 2022.

“We have however witnessed an exponential upsurge of riders in the last two days of the exercise prompting us to make this consideration for an extension,” the statement read.

The exercise is intended to conduct a census of all Boda-Bodas in the City in a bid to streamline the sector.

“All our current centers shall be open up to Friday 2nd September 2022 after which the census exercise shall exclusively take place at our Five Division offices,’’ the authority added.

The authority further appealed to the riders to utilize the Grace Period provided beyond which KCCA shall not plan for those not included in the system.

The Census of all Boda-Bodas, and their stems from a July, 26th 2022 directive from the Prime Minister calling for the streaming of Boda-Boda transport in the nation.

KCCA is conducting the exercise in conjunction with the Ministry for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs, Ministry of Works and Transport, Ministry of Security, and Office of the President, the Police and local area leaders.

According to KCCA, the objective of the census is to make sure the motorcycles fit into KCCA’s grand Smart City initiative.

“To enable the Authority, organize and regulate the Boda-Boda operations and create public transport order for the overall well-being of the city,” KCCA states.

Some of the Boda- Boda riders stated that the reason they delayed to register is due to the fact that they didn’t know the requirements for registration.

Registration requirements include a dully filled application form, National identity Card, letters from the LC, and the Parish Internal Security Officer.
