Youth called upon to strategically position themselves to tap into Parish Development Model(PDM)- Hon Silas Aogon (MP)

The Youth of Uganda under their umbrella forum, National Youth Advocacy Platform(NYAP) together with other youth leaders from National Youth Council(NYC), Uganda Parliamentary Forum On Youth Affairs (UPFYA), Inter Party Youth Platform(IYOP), some councilors from Makindye, Kawempe, Rubaga, Nakawa Divisions have been advised to strategically position themselves so as to tap into the Parish Development Model (PDM) initiative aimed at improving livelihoods of people at Parish/Village level.


Hon Silas Aogon of Kumi Municipality was addressing these youth leaders from all different regions of Uganda today at Jevine Hotel in Rubaga. Hon Silas further echoed the need for youth to always demand for accountability from duty bearers and not to just sit and watch as their share of the national cake is being misappropriated. Youth should stop lamenting and start positioning themselves in every Government programme, said Hon Silas Aogon.

He further thanked the Coordinators of different regional National Youth Advocacy Platform (NYAP) for being organized and requested them to organize the rest of the youth including those in his district of Kumi.
He further stressed the importance of youth working together as a team and appreciated the work being done by Community Integrated Development Initiatives (CIDI).

Hon Silas, requested CIDI through NYAP Coordinator of M/s Evelyn Zalwango to as well support Members of Parliament to have more such interfaces especially on critiquing Government programmes or even understanding these programmes for Uganda’s development and having well informed policies adopted by Government.

The Coordinator of National Youth Advocacy Platform (NYAP), M/S Evelyn, appreciated Hon Silas Aogon, UPFYA membership and leadership for always being their for the cause of youth empowerment, she pledged to rely Hon Silas’ request to CIDI’s top management so as to engage further with Members of Parliament to have policies that speak to youth needs and demands in order to bridge the gap.

Further more, M/S Evelyn thanked all the youth who committed their time to come and participate in this workshop of understanding Parish Development Model (PDM) deeper and for pledging to go and mobilize fellow youth from their Districts, parishes to form SACCOs in order to tap into Parish Development Model(PDM) cash to grow their enterprises thus creating a cash economy and bridging the employment gap.

The National Youth Advocacy Platform (NYAP) Chairperson, Mr Sadat Zagah Zziwa, thank the members of Parliament for always being their to support youth whenever they are called upon, he retaliated the need for NYAP membership to keep the ball rolling and become influencers of youth Policies at every level and keep NYAP relevant to the youth cause. Keep making our voice count, we shall achieve more as we increase on our membership as well our partners. Also thanked Community Integrated Development Initiatives( CIDI) for hosting NYAP and always being their to engage our other partners like Caritas Denmark to believe in us the young people, as well see us as agents of collective development.

The workshop ended with youth NYAP coordinators from WestNile, Northern, Eastern, Western, Central regions making a resolution on how many other youth groups they will support to form SACCOs as a target to tap as much as possible from Parish Development Model (PDM) and influence the economy at the grassroot.

    I liked this because its going to enhance a young persons sense of connectedness, belonging and feeling of being valued.
