KCCA’s Dorothy Kisaka launches construction for Hawkers Market in Kawempe Division.

The Federation of Hawkers in partnership with The MicroFinance Support Centre, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) have launched the construction of a space (Hawkers’ Market) at lower Nsoba Kalerwe, Kawempe Division which will be utilised by city Hawkers and Vendors. The ceremony was witnessed by Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA)’s Executive Director -Dorothy Kisaka, the Executive Director of Microfinance Support Centre Ltd, the Kawempe Division Mayor Emmanuel Sserunjogi, the Division Speaker, councilors among others. The space measuring approx two acres is set to accommodate the hawkers and Vendors who were removed from the streets in the Capital city decongestion plan.

The KCCA’s Executive Director, Dorothy Kisaka hailed the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Government and the Head of State- H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for ensuring that the hawkers are well catered for as stakeholders in the city. She called upon partners to join the Smart City drive and thanked the Micro Finance centre for the generous contribution they have made.

Richard Lubega chairman of the Hawkers Federation said they are going to ensure they register whoever is a vendor or hawker who wants to work with them and they are ready to support KCCA’s efforts to have a smart City.
